Please post your 3 chosen genres for Project 3 with a brief explanation for each choice. Thanks!

21 comments:

  1. 1. A painting of the religious Christian symbol of a fish with the Greek word for fish underneath it. I will then explain the reasoning behind why it is a religious symbol.

    2. A narrative involving Jesus. This is supposed to symbolize how simple it could have to make up stories about Jesus. I'm also going to attempt to cook the paper a bit to make it look old, but that may not work out.

    3. I would take a lot of photographs of people and digitally combine them into one person,. The end person would be made up of pieces of various people. This would symbolize the question of authorship.

  2. 1.A calligram of a mushroom cloud made up of the positive words associated with nuclear reactors such as "electricity," "peace," "progress," "power," in order to symbolically illustrate the hidden danger associated with nuclear reactors. The mushroom cloud, which represents the bomb, in created out of the nuclear power words, which represent the reactor, conveying how nuclear bombs can be created out of nuclear reactors and therefore how nuclear reactors pose a danger. Some words will be much larger than others in order to emphasize their importance.

    2. A cross-section of a nuclear reactor that shows how the reactor works in a simple manner. In the same way that the essay presents the facts and allows the audience to draw the conclusion that nuclear reactors are a threat, the drawing will do the same as it will illustrate the inner workings of nuclear power plants and the simplicity of creating bomb grade materials in a nuclear reactor. It will allow the audience to come to the realization that reactors are a threat in a visual way.

    3. A movie trailer for a movie about how a terrorist organization "broke into" a nuclear reactor and stole all the plutonium and how a secret agent is trying to hunt them down and stop them. But the stakes are super high because of how extremely fast the terrorists can turn the plutonium into a bomb. Either that or a political drama about a middle eastern dictatorship that is constantly subverting international regulations and building a weapon in secret. That one would have no defined protagonist but just one philosophically charged group against another. But either way it would still be a movie trailer for either one of these movies.

  5. 1.) A picture timeline involving examples of the evolution of animation. I plan to get a large sheet of paper and create a visual timeline with dates exhibiting the points at which changes in animation took place.
2.) A flip book of images to show the progression of animated characters. This will show how far detail and liveliness have come since the start of animation through giving the actual visuals.
3.) An informational phamplet, like a brochure, outlining animated works but accompanied by pictures to make it more visual than written.

  6. This is tentative but:
    1) A video satirizing beauty standards created with Barbie Dolls. There will be elements of pop culture and the video will be styled to imitate a reality TV show. The goal of this project will be to show the absurdity surrounding beauty standards in our culture in a humorous way.
    2) I want to create a big black cardboard display with a life-size cut-out of a woman with the ideal dimensions of the modern model with words "Do you Measure Up?" written on the top. This project will emulate the voice of advertising companies and will be a darker genre meant to incite slight disturbance. This display is intended to have multiple layers of meaning- (1) the cut out imitates an entry-way, as in, "We want you to think you need to fit this mold in order to be considered beautiful" and (2) the cut out is simply a silhouette; it's meant to imitate the dehumanization wrought by the ad companies because they fail to display women as more than objects.
    (3) To balance out the previous negative display, I want to bring in a full body mirror with the words "Face Your Reflection" written on top. Framing the mirror will be quotes that I will collect from women containing reasons why they love their bodies. The point of this project is to offer ways women can combat negative body image and live healthily because they love their bodies, not hate them.
Backup plan 4) I have to still judge the prudence of #2 because I don't know if I really want to be the voice of negativity in that way. My other idea is to buy a pair of size 0 jeans from Goodwill and write quotes from women who suffered from eating disorders. Many stories I read about included some article of clothing that women would judge themselves against such as "I was only satisfied with myself as long as I could fit into those jeans."

  7. 1. A board game similar to risk in which I will be able to show how ISIS has become a global force and how they have instilled fear within people worldwide.
    2. An social media advertisement in which ISIS recruits it followers. I will do this to show how ISIS is very effective in recruiting new members especially through means like social media.
    3. Lastly, I will make a short film only with background music and pictures. It's my goal to show the devastation ISIS has caused in this film. I hope the simplicity of just images and music will allow the audience to focus on the devastation caused by ISIS.

  8. 1) A poem written in first person by a minority student who was provided with inadequate educational facilities. In this poem, the speaker recalls visiting a friend in a rich community and visits his school. He is in awe at the stark differences regarding the quality of the resources available to them.
    2) A short fictional story about two animals of the same species from different environments exposed to different dangers food sources, followed by a detached comment about how humans do not need to follow the harsh inequalities of nature and establish equality.
    3) A collage on a poster board or cardboard with images to visualize the differences between students from wealthy, white communities and low-income minority students. The poster would help bring life to the words from the two previous genres and assist the audience in understanding the harsh injustices of the educational system.

  10. 1). A chart that will have the ratios of television views and statistics of appearances at sports games comparing men and women. This will show how misogmy is still present in society as a whole and how everyone still thinks this way.
2). A Facebook page where women or men can comment on how they have experienced or witnessed misogymy. This would show examples of how it affects everyone even your peers around you.
3). A video clip or prezi of some sort of different clips where men are saying derogatory things about women or examples of this. This will really portray the impact of how it feels when men talk about women as if they are not equal.

  12. Book cover
I'm going to take a classic book cover from “A Farewell to Arms” and remix it with visual elements from the other novels. So instead of Catherine and Henry swooning on in the front it'll be Rhett and Scarlet. I'll also include the little guy from the cover of catch 22, the grave and a bomb from slaughterhouse-five and maybe an image from farewell to arms so it is featured too. Kind of symbolic of how all these novels have similar themes and all center around war, so those images are shared.
    Architectural ‘print’
The thesis of my project one was his this classic and ideal love was destroyed by war, so I'm going to make a ‘print’ of a neoclassical building that would be found in the south. The destruction of the old city is symbolic in the book of the destruction of the old southern society with the romantic notion of love included. I am going to emulate the style of Gustave Dore who made prints for “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” because it is a beautiful example of classic illustration art that changed with the invention of technology.
    Comic Book
For this one I am going to make a comic book that mashes up all of the characters and stories into a visual experience. This is where a bulk of my words will come from. I do not know yet the main story line. I will try to do classic comic book style of WWII with like original superman to give it the feel of the era of books I used.

  16. 1. My first option would a political cartoon. Because my topic is essentially all about a political process, I feel that this cartoon would be a very effective way of disseminating the information that concerns my topic.
    2. My second genre would be a letter to the editor of a newspaper. It would reflect the views of an average citizen, and give a different perspective on the issue from a person who has been affected by this process.
    3. My third genre would be a statistical interpretation that is mainly graphs to show the problems with the primary process. It would be a graph that show the disparities in voter participation and the emergence of front-loading in the presidential primary process.
